CPRA/Geidankyo organized the Training Program 2019 for Supporting the development of Asian PMOs

CPRA/Geidankyo organized 'the Training Program for the Management of Performers' Rights 2019' from October 7 to 11 inviting two staffs, Mr. Ton That Thai Son and Mr. Hoang Phu Tung, from APPA, a performers' right management organization (PMO) in Vietnam.

APPA was established in 2016 and their members are approximately 1,000. Unfortunately, APPA has no collection of royalties/remunerations because the performers have collected them directly from the users in Vietnam so far.

In this program, we provided the following sessions: CPRA/Geidankyo organization structure, Designated Management Organization System, performers' rights under Copyright Law of Japan, negotiation and collection of royalties/remunerations, distribution to CPRA/Geidankyo members, agreements with foreign PMOs for financial exchanges and management systems of performers' rights in EU and US. The participants were very eager to learn and especially interested in the management of remuneration rights under Designated Management Organization System.

This training programs have taken place for Asian PMOs from South Korea, Malaysia, India and the Philippines since 2010 and reached 10-year milestone this year. Considering the collaboration with SCAPR Cooperation and Development Working Group, we would like to continue to organize these programs for supporting the Asian PMOs.
